Western Swing Festival

The Cowboy Capital of the World Western Swing Festival celebrates not only great music and community fun, but also Stephenville’s proud connection to the Father of Western Swing, Milton Brown. Born, raised, and later laid to rest right here in Stephenville, Milton Brown helped shape a sound that became a cornerstone of Texas music history. His innovative blend of jazz, country, and swing laid the foundation for the genre we know today as Western Swing—music that continues to bring people together on dance floors across the Lone Star State.

In recognition of his lasting impact, Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation honoring Milton Brown and designating September 8th as Milton Brown Day in Stephenville. This special day—and the annual Western Swing Festival—serve as reminders of the city’s deep musical roots and enduring influence on Texas culture. As you enjoy the live music, food trucks, and lively dancing at Stephenville City Park, you’re not just celebrating a festival—you’re honoring a legacy that began right here in the heart of Stephenville.
